Reasons Why Your Nissan Qashqai Key Fob Won't Work
The Qashqai has a distinctly SUV-like appearance due to its larger dimensions. Additionally, the 19-inch wheels on Ti and ST-L models may be a bit firm at times. The front tyres of Qashqai could also lose grip on rough surfaces, and its CVT can occasionally display wrist-flexing torque steering.
This is usually due to an inoperable coin battery, which can be replaced in just a few minutes. Make sure the new battery is of the same size, voltage and specification.
Water Damage
Water damage is among the most frequent causes for a Nissan keyfob to display the "key ID wrong" message. The key fob is fitted with rubber seals that protect the chip inside, but long-term exposure to moisture could cause it to stop working properly. It's normal to see this if your keyfob was dropped into the ocean or swimming pool. However, it could also occur when it is wet from showers or soapy hands.
If your key fob has been exposed to water for the course of a long time, you may need to clean it with isopropyl, or an electronic cleaner. It may also need to be sent to a specialist to be repaired or replaced.

If your key fob does need to be replaced, the procedure is relatively simple. First, ensure you have an appropriate multipack battery (CR2032 3V). Then, you can open the front and back cases with the help of a small screwdriver. Remove the clips made of metal, then remove the old battery and replace it. Reassemble the fob and replace the mechanical key. Make sure it's working correctly. If it doesn't it, you'll need to bring it to an Nissan dealer or professional auto locksmith to replace the chip. Fortunately, the chip is not normally damaged by exposure to water which means that this shouldn't be a huge expense.
Dead Coin Battery
The coin battery is another frequent reason why your Nissan Qashqai remote key fob might not function. These batteries usually last 3-5 years, but they may fail over time, especially when the fob is dropped frequently. You can replace the battery, however, make sure it's the same voltage and the same dimensions as the original. If you choose to use a brand new battery, it could cause the key to be assigned a different key ID. This will stop it from being linked to your vehicle.
The best method to replace the battery of a coin in the Nissan Qashqai Key Fob is to open it with a small flat-head screwdriver. The screwdriver needs to be inserted into a small notch on the bottom of the key fob. Make sure to gently twist the screwdriver to break the two halves. Remove the old CR2025 battery and replace it with a new one, making note of the position of the old one within the fob.
Examine the terminals for water damage or dirt before installing the new battery. If this is the case clean the terminals with small amounts of isopropyl alcohol. Make sure that the pole cables are properly connected. They should be connected to both the positive and negative poles of your battery.
Fault Diagnosis
If your Nissan Qashqai's primary fob doesn't function after being exposed to clean water from the tap or rain, this could be a sign there's a problem with the internal chip. Changing the battery won't fix this issue, and you'll have to purchase another key fob. If you dropped the key fob on the ground and it stopped working instantly it's most likely because it damaged the internal chip. If you clean the chip with isopropylethanol and paper towels and then put it back in the key fob, you'll generally get it working.
A common error that you may see on your car's dashboard is "Key ID Incorrect." This means that the car is unable to recognize the key fob, and will not allow it to start the engine. The issue could be caused by a variety of things including water damage, undetectable issues in the key fob's circuitry, or RFID interference.
If the 12 volt battery in your key fob is broken or is not supplying enough electric power, it will stop working. This can affect the Nissan Qashqai's remote keyless system central locking, as well as the ability to start the engine with the key fob. If you're unable lock or unlock the door by hand, you should check the batteries on your key fob and make sure they are in good condition. Try re-inserting the battery to reset the transmitter.
Reprogramming
If the key fob was not submerged into saltwater it should come back to life with a simple wash of clean water. You might also try cleaning your electronic chip with isopropyl alcohol or an electronic cleaner. If none of these work, it may be time to replace the entire key fob by a new one.
If your Nissan Intelligent Key still does not work, it could be a connection issue between it and the vehicle. Start by pressing the ignition key, but without activating the vehicle. Continue doing this until you see the hazards lights flash twice. Then, turn the vehicle off and take the keys out.
Open the fob compartment of your vehicle. It's usually in a door jamb, on the driver's side door handle or underneath an armrest. Find nissan key cutting G28 Car Keys and press it. Once the process is completed, you should hear a chime.
Now that your Intelligent Key is relinked to the car now is the time to try it out. Make sure you press all the buttons on the key while you are at a distance from the vehicle. If the lights flash and the horn sound, it means that the key has successfully connected to the Nissan. It is also possible to test it in close proximity.
